v1.4.0 is live: Boss Hour, Celestial Wings and the Royal Market

v1.4.0 is live! Boss Hour runs every two hours, the Royal Market has its own Golden Hour, and Baby Shark has arrived in XileRO. The full notes are on the website.

v1.4.0 is live: Boss Hour, Celestial Wings and the Royal Market

v1.4.0 is live, and it is the biggest update XileRO has had so far: new content to chase, a lot of things you asked us for, and a long list of fixes. Every change since v1.3.0 is below, grouped so you can find your favourites. (Yes, it is a l33t-sized list. We have been busy.)

Your launcher will download the client patches that go with this update: new item names and tooltips, the Baby Shark art, skill descriptions and more. Run the patcher before you log in.

Good to know first

  • World PvP is off. Fields, towns and dungeons are safe. PvP now lives in the @pvp arena, War of Emperium castles and the battlegrounds. That also means nobody can attack your Auto Attack farmer in the field, and the bonus EXP and drops for monsters 20 levels above you no longer apply.
  • Thank-you event: double EXP and drops, with cards at 2%, until Sunday 18 October, 23:59 UK, for your patience during the login outage on 14 October.

New content

Boss Hour

A group boss now rises on Prontera - Beyond Dimension (x_prt), a small open field with nothing else on it, every two hours, every day, on the even hour UTC (00:00, 02:00, 04:00 ... 22:00). A server-wide call goes out 10 minutes before.

  • Join: type @bosshour while the boss is up to warp to the map. The boss shows on your minimap and the dot follows it while you stay on that map.
  • Logging in late: if a boss is up when you log in, an orange message on screen names it and says how many minutes are left.
  • Reward: 3 Rookie Badges for everyone on the map when the boss falls. If nobody kills it within 30 minutes it escapes, and everyone still there gets 1 Rookie Badge. No free slot? Your badges arrive by mail.
  • Limit: once per Boss Hour, and up to 3 Boss Hours a day, per account and per computer. If you are over a limit you are told to come back tomorrow, with separate wording for the computer limit.
  • Who counts: players actively fighting. Not on @autoattack, not @afk, not idle. Auto Attack is not allowed on the map, so you fight the boss by hand.
  • MVP: the player who deals the most damage is the MVP and gets the MVP reward. This now applies to every MVP in the game: it used to count damage taken as well, so a tank could take the MVP from the top damage dealer.
  • When it ends: 30 seconds after the boss falls or escapes, everyone still on the map is moved to their save point, with a warning first. The map has no exit of its own, so if you log off there you come back at your save point.
  • The boss is picked at random each time from Baphomet, Orc Hero, Eddga, Maya, Moonlight Flower, Phreeoni, Drake and Golden Thief Bug. It does not count for the MVP Ladder.
  • Join 10 Boss Hours for the Boss Hunter achievement and the [Boss] title (ALT+Q, Title tab).

The Royal Treasury, Golden Hour and the Royal Market

Talk to the Royal Treasury Steward in Prontera (164, 174) to see the Treasury and shop at the Royal Market. The Steward now talks in plain text and fits each page properly, and shows how full the Treasury is and whether a Golden Hour is booked.

How the Treasury fills. 10% of vending to other players, and of selling loot to a shop for sales over 100,000z (smaller sales are tax-free), goes into the Treasury. Monsters also drop a little zeny on every kill (MVPs don't), and that goes to you.

Golden Hour. When the Treasury reaches 50,000,000z, a Golden Hour is booked for the next 13:00 UTC, the busiest time of day: +50% EXP and double drops for everyone online, for 1 hour. You get a yellow announcement in game and a post in Discord #chat when it is booked, 10 minutes before it starts, and when it begins. Log in during a Golden Hour and you get the rest of it, with a yellow message on screen. Log in while one is booked and the message tells you it starts at 13:00 UTC. The Royal Market refills when it starts.

The Royal Market. Stock is shared by everyone and refills every day at 00:00 UTC and when a Golden Hour starts.

  • Provisions (twice the stock, new prices): Yggdrasil Berry 80,000z, Yggdrasil Seed 40,000z and Royal Jelly 20,000z (100 a day each), Bubble Gum (double drops, 30 minutes) 300,000z and Battle Manual (+50% EXP, 30 minutes) 200,000z (60 a day each).
  • Supplies (a new stall): Giant Fly Wing, which teleports your whole party, 60,000z (30 a day), and the four Elemental Converters (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind) and the Fireproof, Coldproof, Earthproof and Thunderproof Potions, 50,000z each (40 a day each).
  • Convex Mirror: shows the bosses on your map for 10 minutes, 200,000z, limited to 5 a day per player (account and computer), and account-bound.

Celestial Wings

A thank-you to the players who were here first. The first 100 computers to create a character on XileRO can each claim one pair of the Red Celestial Wings (named [C] Founder Celestial Wings (Red), tooltip Founder Edition) until 31 December 2026.

  • Where: the Founder's Herald in the Mall (109, 102), in the top-right corner beside the War Chronicle Herald.
  • Who: the first 100 computers to create a character, by when they joined. The list was frozen when this update went live.
  • How: log in on the computer you played on in the first days, on any character, talk to the Herald, choose Claim, and leave a free inventory slot. One pair per computer, whichever character claims it. If another character on your computer already did, the Herald tells you which one and when.
  • Unclaimed wings are never issued. The wings are tradable, so a player who isn't a founder can still get a pair by trading.
  • The Blue pair, [C] Beta Tester Celestial Wings (Blue), is reserved for our BETA Testers, and the Herald never gives it out.
  • Celestial Wings are no longer sold in the Uber Shop, and the Celestial auras now follow the new wing names.

Baby Shark

Ollie has lost his family on vacation. You need to be Base Level 100 or higher.

  • Talk to Ollie in Prontera (156, 226) and hunt 30 Porings for 3 Baby Shark Coins and the [C] Baby Shark Mask.
  • His family is by the shore in Comodo (184-190, 147). Track every quest in your quest window (ALT+U):
    • Daddy Shark's Ice-Fishing Trip: hunt 30 Siroma (Ice Dungeon 1), 5 Coins.
    • Mommy Shark's Flower Hunt: hunt 30 Mavka (Moscovia Dungeon 3), 5 Coins.
    • Grandma Shark's Kitchen: hunt 30 Archdam (Juperos Core), 5 Coins and 10 Baby Shark Bread.
    • Grandpa Shark's Sightseeing: hunt 15 Siroma, 15 Mavka and 15 Archdam, 5 Coins and 10 Baby Shark Singing Candy.
  • Once all four are done, return to Ollie for A Family Photo: 10 Coins. Every day, ask Ollie for Today's coins: 4 Coins, once per account per day.

Ollie's exchange (Baby Shark Coins are account-bound; the exchange stays open after the quests close):

  • Hoods (Baby Shark, Mommy, Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa): 10 Coins each. Bags: 12 Coins each. [C] Pilot Fish and [C] Baby Shark Mini-Me: 8 Coins each. Baby Shark Bag [1]: 40 Coins. Baby Shark Bread and Singing Candy: 1 Coin each.
  • Hoods, bags, the mask, Pilot Fish and the Mini-Me are costumes with no stats, and they are tradable. Open a Baby Shark Hood, Bag or Doll Selection Box to choose the costume you like.
  • Family set: wear a hood and the same family member's bag together (Mommy Shark Hood plus Mommy Shark Bag, for example) for +10% EXP and +10% drop rate from monsters. A mixed pair gives nothing.
  • Baby Shark Bag [1]: a garment with 1 card slot that can be refined. Max HP and Max SP +10%, ATK +2 and MATK +2 per 10 Base Levels (up to Base Level 250), Water damage -30%, damage from Fish monsters -30%, and EXP and drop rate +1% per refine level (+10% at +10). Together with the family set the bonus never goes past +10%: the set gives what is left of it.
  • Baby Shark Bread restores 50% of your Max HP and raises Max HP by 5% for 30 minutes. Baby Shark Singing Candy does the same for SP.

The quests and the daily coins run for 21 days from this update. Nothing is removed when the event ends: Ollie keeps trading Coins, and every item keeps working. Read more

Endless Tower and Sealed Shrine

Both instances are back, with Rookie Badge rewards once a week per account and per computer (a full bag gets them by mail).

  • Endless Tower (Captain Janssen, Alberta 214, 77; 1,000,000z, level 50+, party of 2 or more, 4 hours): 3 Rookie Badges at each of floors 25, 50, 75 and 100, so a party that falls partway still earns something. Floor 100 also has a 2% chance at an Endless Tower costume.
  • Sealed Shrine (the Grave of Baphomet in monk_test 306, 151, or @help, Instances; party required, 2 hours): 8 Rookie Badges for everyone on Baphomet's floor when he falls, a 2% chance at an Endless Tower costume, and your first clear earns the Seal Keeper achievement and the [Seal] title. Baphomet's own drops stay, cards at the usual 1%.
  • The instances' zeny crafts (the Shervage Bandage and the Gigantic Majestic Goat costume) are unchanged.

Lord Kaho's Horn

The horn was one giant 18-item hand-in. It is now three stages, each with a checklist. Talk to Lord Kaho's Servant (Prontera 163, 213; Morocc 167, 104; Payon 162, 224; Geffen 124, 71; Alberta 40, 229) at any time and every item you still need is marked, with where it drops. ALT+U tracks your stage.

  • I. The Dolls: Poring, Chonchon, Baphomet, Osiris, Rocker, Yoyo, Racoon and Spore Doll. First time on your account: 10 Rookie Badges.
  • II. MVP Trophies: an Emperium, Skull, Heroic Emblem, Evil Horn, Red Frame, Pipe, Fang of Garm, Mother's Nightmare, Sphinx Hat and Young Twig. First time on your account: 20 Rookie Badges.
  • III. The Horn: 5,000,000z for Lord Kaho's Horn, the [Kaho] title and a livefeed shout-out.

The horn gives STR +5, INT +5, VIT +10, AGI +10, LUK +20, MDEF +10 and has 4 slots, and it unlocks Azazel's Dragon Helm, Traveler Hat and Dowry recipes. The dialog and the wiki now name the right monsters for every material (three were wrong). Amon Ra's Sphinx Hat now drops at 3.7% (it was 1.1%), and the horn's tooltip weight is corrected. Read more

Legendary weapons (time to pwn)

Excalibur, Mysteltainn and Executioner are now mid-game goals for levels 60 to 150: three steps each (two hand-ins, then a 7,500,000z forge), with a have-and-need checklist and materials from the maps players actually farm. After the forge the chain starts again, so you can make another sword.

  • Excalibur (Lord Excalaibur, Prontera Castle, prt_in 87, 91): 30 Fake Angel Wing, 50 Petite Diablo's Wing and 2 Sacred Marks from Gefenia; then 30 Brigan, 5 Elunium and 3 Patriotism Marks. ATK 150, Holy, level 40, INT +5, LUK +10, DEX -1, strong against Undead and Shadow. Achievement: Excalibur Bearer.
  • Executioner (Lord Executioner, prt_in 88, 104): 50 Steel from Juperos Core and 10 Rough Oridecon; then 3 Executioner's Mitten and 1 Satanic Chain. ATK 155, two-handed, no slots, Shadow, level 48, for the Swordman, Knight and Crusader lines. Against Demi-Human monsters it ignores their defense and deals +20% damage, and you take +10% from them. It has no bonuses against players, so it can't carry into WoE or the arena. Achievement: The Headsman.
  • Mysteltainn (Lord Baldur, prt_in 72, 105): 10 Heart of Tree and 20 Log from Umbala Dungeon 2; then a Katana, 3 Loki's Whispers and 30 Witherless Rose from Moscovia Dungeon 3. ATK 170, Shadow, level 40, DEX +3, +15% against Ghost, a 10% chance to petrify and a chance to cast Stone Curse Lv 3. Achievement: Mistletoe's Edge.

Forge all three for Legendary Arsenal and the [Arms] title.

Unholy Path

The dungeon was almost impossible to finish: a Seal dropped 3% of the time behind a 45-minute lock. Now every demon you defeat mails each party member on the map that demon's Seal (or just you, if you are alone): one per demon (Seal of Power from Shax, Wisdom from Raum, Spirit from Paimon, Hate from Apollyon, Death from Balam). Seals are tradable. The old 3% Seal drops are gone.

  • All 5 Seals (one from each demon) buy Alpha, Omega or Archangel Wings, with random options.
  • 2 Seals buy one of the five Accessory cards: Greed (VIT +20), Envy (AGI +20), Faith (INT +20), Lust (LUK +20) and Exile (DEX +20). Each card asks for a specific pair of Seals, and the Mystic tells you which. The cards used to give +35 and now give +20. Nobody has claimed a Seal or a card yet, so these are still waiting for their first owner.
  • The Forsaken Mystic shows which Seals you hold, and now also sells Black Helm and Equality Wings for 3 Seals each.
  • The entry fee is still 50,000z, the boss still has 15 minutes, and the 45-minute cooldown after a clear or a failure stays.

Azazel and the WoE Exchange

At the WoE Exchange (Temple of the Sky, ra_temsky 93, 95): all five Azazel Tokens are sold in the new Tokens category for 5 Victory Coins or 60 Participation Coins each, and Azazel Crafting is in the same menu. Each piece still costs 75,000,000z plus its Tokens and materials. The Azazel in Prontera now points you to the Exchange. Tokens stay tradable, their tooltip names the right source, and castle-holding guilds keep their daily Guild Leader Token chance. Crafted equipment is bound but tradable. Read more

Godly S weapons

All 19 Godly S-Tier weapons (level 200) now have a real S edge: their Elite A twin's bonuses plus ATK +5% (MATK +5% on Godly Pridwen and Godly Clarent). The Badge Exchange sells them from a new Godly Weapons menu for 5 Victory Badges each.

Gear, drops and prices

  • Elite A weapons now cost 60,000,000z at both Elite Item shops, in @shop and in the Mall (they were 120,000,000z).
  • Yggdrasil Berry drops at 10% from Baphomet Jr. (Labyrinth 3) and Shining Plant (it was 5%). Poison Bottle drops at 30% from Eremes Guile (it was 11%) and 8% from Wooden Golem (it was 4%).
  • Blacksmith Blessing, the refine break protection, is now sold in the MVP Ladder shop for 20 points, and clearing all three Weekly Bounties gives 2 (account-bound) with the 10 Yggdrasil Seeds. A full bag keeps the bonus waiting.
  • Monkey Fist Card and Bloody Knight Champion Card now give All Stats +5 (it was +2).
  • Uber Shop costumes now pay Costume Mileage Coins: 5 per Uber when delivered (15 for a 3-Uber relic costume, 100 for a 20-Uber premium one), the Feral Monster Costume Egg included.
  • Beithir Armor needs 1 Dark Red Scale instead of 3, and 20,000,000z instead of 2 Gold Coins. Cursed Water no longer asks for the one-time membership: the plain exchange is all it takes. Syri now shows every elixir's cost in the menu.
  • Starter weapons cost their official prices (Knife 50z, Sword 100z, Axe 500z, Battle Axe 5,400z, Composite Bow 2,500z), Condensed White Potion is 5,000z at the Tool Dealers, and @shop now has a Spears stall.
  • Items bought in the Uber Shop can no longer be sold to an NPC by accident: the shop simply doesn't accept them. You can still keep, trade or store them.
  • Vend Supplies no longer sells the Universal Catalog Gold or the buying-store license. @whosells and @buyitems do the same for free: @whosells opens the store search for the map you are on, 10 searches at a time, and marks the shop on your minimap when you double-click a result. @buyitems opens your own buying store with 2 slots.
  • Solar Sword heals you for 1% of the damage you deal on every hit, as its tooltip says. The item had a broken script, so the drain never worked and every login logged errors.

Classes and skills

Knight, Crusader and Monk lines hit monsters harder

Four skills that fell behind for farming now do more damage against ordinary monsters. Players and boss-protocol monsters are unchanged, so PvP, WoE and MVP fights feel the same as before.

  • Bowling Bash (Knight, Lord Knight): +30% damage.
  • Spiral Pierce (Lord Knight): +30% damage. Against players it keeps its existing -10%.
  • Shield Chain (Paladin): +30% damage.
  • Throw Spirit Sphere (Monk, Champion): +20% damage. Against players it keeps its existing -1%.

Five skill formulas are back, as on the old XileRO

When the server source was updated, five skills lost the way they worked on the old XileRO. The owner approved restoring them, and the in-game tooltips for Decrease AGI, Aura Blade and Soul Breaker now state the new rules.

  • Decrease AGI (High Priest). It works in percentage mode again. A High Priest lowers a player's AGI by the skill level as a percentage of the target's STR, and never less than the skill level. At level 10 that is -10 AGI against a target with 100 STR and -15 against one with 150 STR. Monsters lose the skill level plus 2. Every other class still uses the plain flat reduction.
  • Aura Blade. Its bonus is +20 per skill level plus your base STR on every Weapon Attack. At level 5 that is +100 plus your STR. It is added after the target's defense, so defense does not reduce it.
  • Blitz Beat (players). Each hit is now (DEX/10 + total INT + base INT/2 + Steel Crow level x 2 + 40) x 2. It used to be (DEX/10 + INT/2 + Steel Crow level x 3 + 40) x 2. INT now counts for much more and Steel Crow for a little less. Example, DEX 50, INT 120 (100 base), Steel Crow 10: 270 per hit before, 470 now. A build with little INT and a maxed Steel Crow gains less than an INT build. Monsters casting Blitz Beat are unchanged.
  • Soul Breaker. The INT part of the damage, 5 x skill level x INT, uses your base INT only, so INT from equipment, cards and buffs no longer counts. At level 10 with 100 base INT and 30 more from gear, that part is 5,000 instead of 6,500. The flat 500 plus a random 0 to 499 is unchanged.
  • Holy Light under Spirit of the Priest. The damage multiplier is x3, not x5: a 125% Holy Light becomes 375% instead of 625%. Holy Light without the Spirit is unchanged.

Magnum Break sets your weapon on fire again

For 15 seconds after a Magnum Break, your weapon is endowed with the Fire element, as on the old XileRO, so your Weapon Attacks hit Fire-weak monsters (Earth, for example) harder. The extra 20% Fire damage Magnum Break already gave still applies. The endow replaces any other weapon endow you had, such as Aspersio or Enchant Poison.

Triple Attack no longer slows your Weapon Attacks

After Triple Attack triggered, the next Weapon Attack was held back, so your attacks stuttered each time it fired. The next Weapon Attack now comes at your normal speed.

Daggers and knuckles are playable again

Some jobs had no attack speed set for these weapons, so they fell back to the slowest default and swung at about ASPD 26. These now have their own speed:

  • Dagger: Acolyte, Priest, High Priest, Monk, Champion, Gunslinger, Taekwon, Star Gladiator, and the Baby Acolyte, Priest and Monk.
  • Knuckle: the Priest line. Frenzic and Oblivion Blade now keep a playable speed on all of them.

Auto Attack rules

  • No Auto Attack in castles, in the @pvp arena or on the Boss Hour map. @autoattack and @ac will not start there. A character already running it is stopped, and told why, when it walks onto one of those maps.
  • Up to 3 characters per computer can run Auto Attack at the same time. It used to count connections, so a family on one router could hit the limit while someone using a VPN dodged it. Characters left farming with @afk count. A fourth is refused with "Auto Attack runs on at most 3 characters per computer. Stop it on another character first."

Balance changes

We know some of these hurt. Here is the reasoning: each tier of gear should be a clear step up from the one below, and a few sets had run away from the rest.

  • Little Devil set: the ASPD bonus with an armor, the wings and the tail is +10 in all (it was +19).
  • Emperor and Scarlet Angel pairings with Clothes of Brilliance give half the INT, and the Scarlet Angel Helm no longer adds MATK +5% with the Emperor Wings or Shoulders.
  • Azazel sets are trimmed so a full Azazel kit sits below a full Godly S kit: each hat's All Stats goes from 10 to 6, Deviling Wings' partner bonus from 10 to 5, and the third set bonus of Renove, Tannin and Lilim Armor from +10 to +5.
  • Unholy Path cards (Greed, Envy, Faith, Lust and Exile) now give +20 to one stat (it was +35).
  • PvP and WoE only: Acid Demonstration does 50% less damage to players, High Wizard's Jupitel Thunder does 25% less (arena and WoE), and Storm Gust 15% less (WoE only). Monsters are unaffected.
  • Brisingamen now costs 20,000,000z in the Uber Item shops (it was 1,500,000z), in line with Megingjard and the Celebration Ring. Anyone who already bought one keeps it. Embryo is 4,500,000z at both @shop and @mall (it was 15,000,000z at @shop).

Fixes and small changes

  • The Rookie Trials quest log now points to the right NPC and map instead of a disabled Hunting Mission, and a bounty cleared before the weekly reset still counts for Trial II.
  • The @help leveling guide now follows where each level band actually plays, with Ice Dungeon 1 and Gefenia 2 added.
  • The trait point reminder now tells you how to spend the points (Alt+A, then + beside POW, STA, WIS, SPL, CON or CRT), and @help has a Trait Stats entry.
  • Abyss Lake 3 lets you use skills again.
  • Lude no longer stacks on a single cell at the Niflheim entrance (nif_fild02).
  • The client no longer crashes when you enter Brasilis, or on the Fantasy dye palettes for the Ninja, fox Wizard-line and Peco Swordsman bodies.
  • The High Class Stylist on Byalan Island no longer stands in the dungeon portal, so walking up to it no longer warps you into the dungeon. The Fantasy Race booth stays closed for now.
  • Castle flags now show when the owner captured them, and the two castles that showed "Unknown" have been repaired.
  • The Auto Attack limit message now says what the limit is and what to do, instead of blaming "another account".

Corrections

  • Azazel now takes every material his recipes list. Pieces made without them were removed and their 75M fee refunded by mail. Anyone affected has a mail with the details.
  • The MVP Ladder no longer counts five field monsters that were counting by mistake (Hyegun, Apocalypse, Enchanter, Raydric DeadEye and Leaf Cat). The points they gave were taken back, never below zero, and anything you already bought with ladder points is yours to keep. Everyone affected has a mail.

Spotted something odd? Tell us in the bug report forum on Discord, and grab the client from the downloads page.

See you in XileRO, and good luck out there, n00bs and veterans alike!
