Hunt, Don't Buy: Cards Go Drop-Only, Battlegrounds Fixes & More

Cards are now earned by hunting monsters only — removed from every shop, including the Uber Shop. Battlegrounds rewards fixed across all 4 modes. Town skill restrictions lifted. Plus a bigger HP/SP pool, quest updates, and a batch of bug fixes. Full notes on the site.

Hunt, Don't Buy: Cards Go Drop-Only, Battlegrounds Fixes & More

Big one this time, adventurers — a lot of cleanup, a lot of fairness fixes, and a few things that have been broken quietly for longer than we'd like to admit. Here's everything that shipped.

Character Power

  • HP/SP pools increased from 120% to 150% — noticeably bigger health and SP bars across the board.

Cards Are Earned, Not Bought

One of XileRO's long-standing problems: you could just buy MVP cards for zeny, no hunting required. That undercuts the whole point of going after these monsters, so we pulled the thread all the way through.

  • Removed the Cards/Card shops in Christmas Town and the Mall — every monster card, MVP or not, is now drop-only.
  • Also pulled every card from the Uber (donation) Shop — cards are no longer purchasable with real money, period.
  • While auditing this, we found several MVP monsters had no live spawn at all — fixed, using their proper official locations.
  • Fixed the Beelzebub fight — he's a two-stage encounter (small Fly Form → True Form) and wasn't behaving right.
  • New wiki page: MVP Card Hunting — all 40 card-dropping monsters (22 unique MVPs + 18 repeatable mini-bosses), with spawn maps, HP, and respawn timers, so you actually know where to go.

Battlegrounds

  • Fixed the missing 1v1 Duel preview image in the queue window.
  • Moved the 1v1 arena booth to its correct spot — several of you noticed a booth just... missing. Found it.
  • Audited every reward across all 4 modes (3vs3 / 5mFFA / CTF / 1v1) — the Rookie Badges shown in the window now match what's actually paid out for a win, draw, or loss. CTF's draw and loss rewards in particular were paying out nothing despite the window promising badges — that's fixed.

Quests

  • Azazel (equipment crafting) modernized — crafted gear now rolls random options like any other equipment instead of coming out as flat stock stats.
  • Forsaken Mystic (Unholy Path) modernized — its 3 real equipment rewards now roll random options too, and we moved the NPC into the dungeon itself so you're not making a round trip to Izlude for every turn-in.

Towns & World

  • Removed the restriction blocking ~25 skills inside every town — Icewall, Quagmire, the wedding/family skills, Pneuma, Emergency Call, and more all work in Prontera and every other city now.
  • Confirmed vending and chatroom creation both work fine in Prontera and every core city — a few of you asked, we checked, all good.
  • Removed two dead "Battlegrounds"/"Quest Room" doors in the newbie hub that looked clickable but led nowhere.

Quality of Life & Fixes

  • Monster chat expanded from a small ~130-monster prototype to full coverage — 564 monsters now have their own idle/attack flavor lines. (And yes, we heard it got spammy on dense-mob maps right after — trigger rates are down and cooldowns are up now.)
  • Rare-drop server announcements were firing on drops that weren't actually rare (looking at you, Butterfly Wing at ~3%) — now only genuinely rare drops (1% or below) get broadcast.
  • Dropped items now show a colored light pillar by type — cards get their own color, and every equipment slot (weapon, armor, headgear, garment, shoes, accessory) gets its own too, so you can spot a good drop from across the screen.
  • Also caught and fixed a real one along the way: item dropping had been completely disabled, server-wide. That's obviously fixed now.

Thanks for bearing with the rough edges while we hunted these down — a lot of this was "quietly broken for a while" territory, and it feels good to finally close it out.

See you in XileRO!
